Things I Never Blogged About: Christmas 2013

Playing catch up to share memories I never blogged about.. here’s Christmas 2013.

We celebrated Christmas a few days early at home with my family, and then packed up our kids and headed north for Christmas. It takes about 16 hours with two kids between eating, potty breaks, and etc. Our kids were great travelers on the trip up. Everyone was feeling sick on the way home, so that trip was pretty miserable.

We had a great time spending Christmas  up north. Chris’s family always goes all out for Christmas and we leave feeling so blessed. I’m so glad I married into such a wonderful family. My babies are lucky and get to grow up with a pretty great family–on both sides. We loved spending time with family, playing in the snow, and teaching Toby to roll over, among many other things.

Here are some scenes from our trip up north.

Things I Never Blogged About: Elodie’s 3rd Birthday

Trying to play catch up.. so here’s a throwback to November 2013.

Elodie’s third birthday was back in November. I was still on maternity leave, so a stay-at-home-mom friend and I took the kiddos to the aquarium for Elodie’s actual birthday. We love the aquarium, so any excuse to go is a good one. We had not taken Elodie in a while and she is at a great age to really enjoy it. Momma had a fun day with her babies looking at the fish.

For her party, since Toby was born at the end of September, I knew I wouldn’t have the energy to plan an elaborate party. We decided to have it at a favorite spot of ours, an indoor playground with inflatables called Catch Air. This place took care of everything for us–all we needed to do was show up & bring cake.

The kids played hard for about an hour and a half, which included a dance party with Dora! Once the playing was done we sang & ate pizza, snacks and cake.

Happy Birthday To You!

Happy Birthday To You!

I think most little kid birthday parties are enjoyed more by the adults who attend, especially when they can get on all the equipment and play right along with the babes. Here’s Chris going down a slide with another little girl who was there.

I can’t believe my baby girl is already 3 years old. She’s growing right up into a beautiful, smart, funny, energetic & loving little girl. I’m so thankful for her. Love you, princess!

Thanksgiving 2013

We had a small Thanksgiving this year with just my mom, Chris and our kiddos. I didn’t feel like cooking for just us, so we ordered dinner from a local grocery store and had a very laid-back day. Chris ran a race, like last year, and picked up dinner while he was out. Elodie, Toby and my mom and I spent the morning at our house & baked cookies.

We finished decorating for Christmas. We’ve been doing it slowly but surely since I’ve been on maternity leave & Chris has been off work all week. We wanted a big tree, since we have 20-ft vaulted ceilings in our living room, so we got a beautiful 10ft tree. I’m in love.

We took some family pictures, ate dinner, and relaxed.

Hope everyone had a lovely day. Happy Thanksgiving! We have lots to be thankful for this year, so we’re feeling pretty blessed.

More About Toby

Our little man has been around for a little more than a week, and we are falling more in love with him each day.

Here’s a little more about our little guy.

Tobias-Watson

Where did we get his name, Tobias Arthur?

With a daughter named Elodie Alene, we couldn’t name this one something common. Chris’s requirement for a name is that it’s something that can be shortened. After weeding out names that couldn’t be shortened, I still really loved the name “Toby.” Chris knew of a hockey player whose name is Tobias, but goes by Toby, so we decided on Tobias. (Side note: the hockey player mentioned played for the Atlanta Thrashers when they were around, and Chris and I frequented Thrasher’s hockey games in our early relationship, so it’s a fun little coincidence.)

Arthur is Chris’s dad’s middle name. Our options were either Arthur or Shawn, which is Chris’s middle name. I’ve always loved the name Arthur, and we even debated using that as a first name, so there was really no question about choosing it for a middle name. Elodie shares a middle name with my mom.

How is he as a newborn?

No complaints so far. He eats well, sometimes too well. He sometimes nurses for upwards of an hour. Luckily he’s always gone at least 3 hours in-between feedings, and lately and at night it’s 4 hours in between. He rarely cries, and loves being cuddled & carried. He’s a very sweet momma’s boy so far–just what I wanted in a son 🙂

Also, a little more than a week later he’s already not only gotten back up to his birth weight, but surpassed it. He was 8lb 1oz at birth and yesterday he weighed 8lbs 3oz. Big boy!

Elodie-alene

How is Elodie handling everything?

Well, Elodie is almost 3. She is very aware of what’s going on. Her tantrums have increased, especially at bedtime–which may or may not have anything to do with the new baby. She is sweet when she interacts with him, giving him kisses, talking about “her baby,” and making us whisper when he is sleeping. She also suddenly has an increased interest in momma, which she definitely did not have before. I have to put her to bed, read her extra books at bedtime, and she often wants me to help her on the potty, get snacks, etc. Whenever I’m holding/feeding Toby she asks “can you have two babies?” which means she wants to snuggle too. She also wants to be near me if I excuse myself to nurse Toby or to pump. I’m sure it will get better as she gets used to it and as Toby gets older & more interactive.

How is momma doing?

I get this question a lot. I’m glad people care about me, but I just had a baby. I’m not going to be running a marathon anytime soon, but momma is good. It cracks me up when doctors/random people tell me I need to “rest.” Even before I had Toby, I still had a 2 year old running around. Working all day in the weeks leading up to my due date + coming home to a rowdy/whiny toddler was exhausting. No resting was done before Toby, and nothing has changed since I’ve had him. Now I have a rowdy/whiny toddler & a newborn to keep track of. After you have a baby, you just kind of feel like crap.  I’m not someone who was ever a fan of being pregnant, and the postpartum stuff is just as bad, in my opinion. I’m not someone who will ever try and convince you that actually having a baby is a pleasant experience. The baby makes things a little more bearable.  🙂

I love my kids, but going through this twice is enough for me. (Please remind me of this when Toby gets older and I want another one)

Watson-Family

How are you adjusting to your new family of 4?

The whole experience of having a second baby is totally different from having your first. From the delivery, to the hospital stay, to the pediatrician visits, everything has been exponentially more calm than it was with Elodie. I guess with non-first-time-parents, people actually think you know what you’re doing and just let you parent your kids how you want to. I remember being constantly stressed with Elodie. Everyone we spoke to gave us different advice/information. I always felt like I wasn’t making the “best” decisions and that I was being judged by professionals for not doing everything their way.

This time around, everyone just leaves us alone–in a good way. We’ve been doing things similarly to how we did when Elodie was a newborn, and will continue to do so until what we’re doing doesn’t work for Toby. Toby is already so much easier than Elodie was, so it makes our lives that much more calm this time around.

Chris and I are both excited about our new son & all the new experiences/challenges of raising a boy. We’re also slowly adjusting to our new family of 4. We’re eating in shifts, constantly doing laundry, changing baby diapers, drying tears, and getting/receiving lots of love & kisses. We’re sleepy and maybe a little grumpy on occasion, but we are very blessed.

More Summer Things

Here’s more of what we’ve been up to this summer.

After nearly 3 years of being married, Chris and I finally updated our bedroom furniture. We bought all new furniture including a king-sized bed, 2 night stands, a dresser/mirror & entertainment stand and a new mattress & bedding. We are loving it so far. I wish I was sleeping better, but at nearly 7 months preggo, this baby is already making me too uncomfortable to really enjoy it. Maybe one day 😉

The good news is, now that we have new bedroom furniture, our old stuff is in our guest room & ready for guests! If you haven’t come to visit us yet and see our new house, now is the time! You have a room to yourself!

New Bedding

New Bedding

Speaking of being nearly 7 months preggo, a few weeks ago I entered my third trimester. I honestly don’t think it’s possible to get much bigger than I am in this picture, but unfortunately it’s going to happen. I do not remember feeling this huge with Elodie, but the doc says he’s measuring right on time. Here’s to another 2 1/2 months of waiting!

3rd Trimester!

3rd Trimester!

While we wait for the baby boy, we finally got around to furnishing his nursery. I’m pretty sure that by the time I was 7 months with Elodie we had nearly everything done… but I guess that’s the joys of being be the oldest child.

We bought a dresser and crib and I think we decided on bedding, which we still need to order. Once we get the bedding, we can paint & etc. At least this is a start..

Elodie is beyond excited to meet her brother. Every day she tells me “I want my baby brother to come out now. I miss him.” I tell her that I feel the same way but he needs to get a little bigger & stronger before he can come out and meet us. She loves him so much already. She’s such a sweet baby girl.

I can’t recall if I’ve mentioned this or not, but my sister, brother-in-law and nephew moved down here this summer from Nashville. They are both teachers and were able to get jobs in Chris’s school district. They stayed with us temporarily while they found a place to live & we enjoyed having a house full of family.

My mom also recently moved a little closer to our new house & now we’re all within 20-25 min of each other. It’ll be really nice to have everyone so close when the new baby arrives.

Seeing Monsters University--first movie in the movie theater

Seeing Monsters University–first movie in the movie theater

We took Elodie to see her first movie in the movie theater. We saw Monster’s University. Elodie loves Monster’s Inc., so we were really excited to take her to see the second one. She’s 2 and a half, and obviously didn’t sit through the whole thing, but she did have fun and enjoyed her popcorn. She was really well behaved and just jumped around from my lap, to Chris’s lap, to her seat & jumped around some more in between. I even took her to see Despicable Me 2 a few days ago by myself & she did even better! What a fun new phase in her life.

I can’t even express how thankful I am to have this summer to spend with Elodie, just the three of us, before our new addition arrives. We need to be sure to set aside Elodie time, without the baby.

Hubs Pre-Peachtree

Hubs Pre-Peachtree

Just like last year on July 4th, Chris ran the Peachtree Road Race again. I wished I would have been able to, but it didn’t seem too appealing being pregnant & all. I did sign up for it, but ended up transferring my number to someone else. The weather forecast was less than favorable, so Elodie and I didn’t go cheer everyone on, but Chris said the rain held off for the majority of the race. He pulled a muscle in his calf while he was running, and is still somewhat recovering. I guess it was a pretty eventful day. I hope to be back out there next year! I’ve been anxiously awaiting being able to start running again.

After the race, we spent some time celebrating the 4th with some good friends. Our friends Jessie & Ben live right in downtown Atlanta and their building has a perfect rooftop view of the Centennial Park fireworks–some of the only fireworks that didn’t cancel because of the weather.

July 4th Celebrations

July 4th Celebrations

Elodie loved watching the fireworks, so it ended up being a great evening.

We only have 2 1/2 weeks left of summer before we go back to school. During these remaining days we will celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary, make a trip up to the beach with Chris’s family, and Chris will finish up his summer semester of grad school. We’re staying busy, but we’ve been enjoying ourselves.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Three

Three.

In about three months our family of three, which we’ve been accustomed to for almost three years, will become a family of four. Life as we know it will never be the same.

Eating donuts with Daddy

Eating donuts with Daddy

We’ve been so blessed with Elodie. She has such a sweet soul and is the most affectionate child I’ve ever met. She is constantly giving kisses, requesting cuddles and making sure her “baby brother” is happy in momma’s belly. I have no doubt that she will be an amazing big sister.

Princess Elodie

Princess Elodie

Our lives over the past (almost) three years, have been a whirlwind, and having a newborn/baby around seems like such a distant memory. This child is so grown-up & independent, it’s scary sometimes. I know describing life with a kiddo as “easy,” might seem silly, but that’s how I feel these days. She’s at a perfect age. Do we even remember how to parent a newborn?

Floating with Daddy

I am absolutely loving having this summer off to spend time with her, while it’s just the three of us. I’m trying to soak up and enjoy every second of it.

Morning cuddles = best time of the day!

I know I will love the boy just as much as I love sweet Elodie, but it’s just crazy to think about how things are going to change. And this change is right around the corner.

24 Weeks--a few weeks ago

24 Weeks–a few weeks ago

I really have no point to make; these are just a few things I’ve been thinking about quite a bit lately. I cannot wait for September.

Have to utilize these when they are available.

I cannot wait to see how Elodie jumps into her new role of big sissy. I cannot wait to parent a little boy. I cannot wait to be Watson: Party of 4.

Three more months until my due date. Three months until our family of three adds a new member.

Are you as excited to meet this little guy as I am?

Gymnastics Recital

On Mother’s Day weekend, Elodie’s gymnastics gym had a recital for the little kiddos. She  has upgraded from the parent-tot class to a big girl class all on her own, so this was the first time she could showcase all that she’s learned. All the kiddos who participated in the recital at the same time Elodie did probably were between ages 2-4, so it was kind of chaos. Cute as can be, but chaos.

Luckily, since it was Mother’s Day weekend, my sister, brother-in-law and nephew were all in town to watch Elodie’s performance!

The gym all set up

The gym all set up

The gymnasts had 3 stations in their routine: a trampoline/jumpy station, a balance beam station & a flip/roll station. Chris got videos of her at all three stations. The videos came out slightly better than the pictures. It’s hard to capture a 2 year old running around.

In these videos, Elodie is in the black leotard, black shorts & her hair is in pigtails. She’s hard to see sometimes!

I think the trampolines are Elodie’s favorite.

Elodie is usually better about walking on the balance beams by herself, but was being shy during her performance.

Right at the beginning of this video, Elodie does a perfect roll all by herself! This is rare, as usually her rolls go sideways and crazy. What a perfect time to be recording her!

Once all the gymnasts were finished, they called them all up to receive a medal. They all did a great job & deserved it!

A mother of one of the girls in Elodie’s class got all the little ladies in her class flowers. It was really thoughtful. This is the best picture we could get of the three sweet girls who’ve been in class together since last summer.

Spring has Sprung… sort of.

Anyone who knows me knows I’m NOT made for the cold weather. As soon as there is a hint of warm weather, my mood instantly perks up. I complain nearly every morning when I check my weather app & it says 30’s or 40’s. I’m beyond ready for spring/summer.

March is a crazy month, weather wise. One day it’s sunny & warm, one day it’s snow-flurrying, and then we’re under tornado warnings the very next day. So we try and savor those lovely warm sunny days, because you never know when we’ll get another one. We’ve spent a few days at the park lately and it’s been wonderful.

We also spent the other weekend in downtown Kennesaw at an annual event they host called, Touch-a-Truck. They have dozens of vehicles, school buses, fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, etc. out on display for the kids to run around, get in, and touch. It was a gorgeous day & Elodie loved getting in all the cool vehicles they had. The BEST part about the event was that everything was free! They had inflatable bouncy houses for the kids that were free & they were giving out free popcorn! We couldn’t of asked for a better way to spend the morning.

Lately

I am really in a rut with this whole blogging thing. I’m too busy during the week to write anything and then on the weekends, we are enjoying our time together/running errands/doing stuff around our house, so I quickly run out of time then too.

Also, I suck at taking pictures.

There are a few things I have managed to capture in the past couple of weeks, so here it goes.

Elodie’s knowledge/vocabulary just grows exponentially by the day. She’s saying 3-4 word sentences (her favorite of which is “no, my do it!”),  she repeats e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g we say, she’s learning to count, she knows some letters (pretty much just O & W),  she knows almost all of her colors, and she loves “reading” books to herself.  Her favorite things to do around the house are jump on her trampoline, have a tea party, push her baby dolls around in a stroller, color, draw and paint.  She also loves Skyping with Grandma & Grandpa on the iPad.

Blow-drying her hair

Blow-drying her hair after her bath like a diva

She’s gotten so sweet with us. Every afternoon when we come home or pick her up from her babysitter’s, she runs to us & screams “mommy! daddy! miss you!” She gives the best kisses, tells us “lub you” all the time, and after a long day she cuddles up to us and says “mommy/daddy need you.” What toddler says that?! How adorable!

This is a cute video  I took the other day of her “counting.” For some reason 7 & 9 are favorites.

The weather here has been horrible. As I’m sure most people are, I am SO SICK of the cold weather. It’s been ridiculously cold (for GA) and we’ve been hiding out inside as much as possible. We went to the Children’s Museum the other weekend and finally got a membership. I’m super excited that we can go there whenever we want now for freeeeeeee. It will definitely be worth it over the summer when the weather gets miserable for another reason.. the dreaded heat. Dreaded heat + me being really preggers will not be a good combination this summer. Indoor activities will be welcomed 🙂

Elodie’s First Haircut

We got Elodie’s hair cut for the first time today! Within the last few months, it’s gotten super long & it was time to freshen it up.

We took her to a fun, just for kids, salon, Hairy’s Salon.

There were cute chairs where the kids could sit and they put on an Elmo movie to keep her entertained as well. Sitting in the chair didn’t last long & I had to hold her for most of the hair cut, but she was great!
