Things I Never Blogged About: Elodie’s 3rd Birthday

Trying to play catch up.. so here’s a throwback to November 2013.

Elodie’s third birthday was back in November. I was still on maternity leave, so a stay-at-home-mom friend and I took the kiddos to the aquarium for Elodie’s actual birthday. We love the aquarium, so any excuse to go is a good one. We had not taken Elodie in a while and she is at a great age to really enjoy it. Momma had a fun day with her babies looking at the fish.

For her party, since Toby was born at the end of September, I knew I wouldn’t have the energy to plan an elaborate party. We decided to have it at a favorite spot of ours, an indoor playground with inflatables called Catch Air. This place took care of everything for us–all we needed to do was show up & bring cake.

The kids played hard for about an hour and a half, which included a dance party with Dora! Once the playing was done we sang & ate pizza, snacks and cake.

Happy Birthday To You!

I think most little kid birthday parties are enjoyed more by the adults who attend, especially when they can get on all the equipment and play right along with the babes. Here’s Chris going down a slide with another little girl who was there.

I can’t believe my baby girl is already 3 years old. She’s growing right up into a beautiful, smart, funny, energetic & loving little girl. I’m so thankful for her. Love you, princess!

Halloween 2013

I’m about 2 weeks late in posting this, but better late than never, right?

Here are some scenes from our Halloween this year! My nephew, Josiah, came over to join the Watson kiddos for some Halloween fun! This was our first Halloween in our new neighborhood & it was a blast! We live in the perfect neighborhood for kiddos, minus all the hills.

And, since we were all out with the kids trick-or-treating, we still wanted to give other kids candy too, so we left some bowls of candy & a sign a-la Parks and Rec.

If you've been to our house & seen our driveway, you know kids don't want to walk up to ring our doorbell. This was the easiest solution at the bottom of our driveway.

Elodie did so great with her “TRICK OR TREAT”‘s & saying “Thanks!” at every house. It was such a fun evening. Just for fun, here’s a look at last year’s Halloween.

Hope your Halloween was great!

I owe y’all some updates of our house, family & etc. Sorry!

Is anyone still reading this thing… do you want updates? 🙂

Jersey Shore

We’ve been home from the beach & back at work for 2 weeks. Needless to say, we’ve been pretty busy since we’ve been home so enjoy this tardy recap of our vacation.

Most of our trip was similar to last year, so check there for any missing details 🙂

We packed up our new mini-van & hit the road around 6:00 am, the morning before we were planning to arrive on the beach. We wanted to take our time to get up there and enjoy the trip. By the way–having a mini-van is AWESOME for traveling.

Van packed & ready to go @ 6:00 am

Van packed & ready to go @ 6:00 am

Since we had some extra time built into the trip, we were able to make plenty of stops. This kept Elodie & a 30-week pregger momma very happy 🙂

One stop was a drive-through zoo/safari somewhere along I-81 in VA. We bought a bucket of food, and drove around to see & feed animals. I didn’t love the animals coming right up to our car, but Elodie & Chris were having fun.. so that’s all that matters.

After our first long day of driving, we stopped  somewhere in Delaware for the evening. There’s a ferry that you can drive onto and it takes you from Lewes, DE to Cape May, NJ–Cape May, NJ is only about 20 minutes from our final destination in Stone Harbor, NJ. This saved us from having to drive too much the next day, and we thought it’d be a fun experience for Elodie.

I got a little sea-sick on the ferry, but Elodie enjoyed running around with Chris and looking for dolphins. We didn’t take it on the way home, but it was a fun thing to do once.

After the ferry docked, we had a short drive to meet up with our family and begin our lovely beach vacation.

Ahhh, finally at the beach

Ahhh, finally at the beach

The rest of the week consisted of beach, beach, seafood, ice cream, family, zoo, shopping & some more beach. Similarly to last year, the week were there happens to be around July 25, which is Christmas in July. Santa can be found all over town all week. This was an added bonus to our trip because we ran into him all over town. Between this & getting ice cream every night, Elodie was in heaven.

Our lovely set-up. This tent was AWESOME for Elodie.

Our lovely set-up. This tent was perfect for Elodie’s afternoon naps.

The biggest difference from last year & this year, aside from my giant belly, was Elodie is a whole year older. What a difference a year makes! Last year she was drinking bottles, wearing diapers, and was only a year and a half.

Trying to make our lives a little easier, since we knew we weren’t going to have to be running back & forth for bottles and diaper changes, we purchased this tent in hopes that Elodie could just take her afternoon naps right on the beach. It worked like a charm. She loved it and loved napping in it. We loved it because we could lounge around on the beach all day and not have to worry about messing Elodie’s schedule up. Best investment for kiddos ever. I STRONGLY recommend getting one if you’re planning a long beach vacay.

On one of the cloudier days, we took a day off from the beach to enjoy the (free!!) zoo. Elodie enjoyed the drive-through safari thing so much, we knew we had to take a day to visit the zoo. She is kind of obsessed with animals and had a blast.

Summer Things

Even though we’ve only been out of school for a week, summer is in full swing here in the Watson household. We want to enjoy as much time together as possible before Chris starts his summer semester of classes & is in class 4 days/week. Ugh.

I snuck away for the weekend for a girls weekend beach trip while Chris and Elodie spent some quality time together.

2013-05-31 13.03.37

When I came home, the summer fun continued!

We went strawberry picking at a local Strawberry Farm. The weather has been crazy, so the strawberry season has been extended into the summer months. We weren’t complaining because we haven’t been able to fit it into our schedule this season.

Finding the best spot to pick

Finding the best spot to pick

Last time we did this was last April (2012). Elodie was 1 + a few months, and while she enjoyed picking (eating) the berries then, she LOVED it this year. She had her own little basket & she went to town. We told her to make sure she got the berries that were red all the way around, not green, and she kept saying that over and over while she picked. “Green berries make my tummy yucky. Red berries make my tummy feel good.”

So cute.

Once we got home from picking, the weather was starting to heat up. We have yet to utilize our lovely pool that comes with our HOA fees, and we decided to cool off by finally checking out the pool.

We rarely took Elodie to the pool last summer, so we weren’t sure what to expect. We bought her a little Puddle Jumper vest to wear in the pool over her bathing suit. It was perfect for her.

Our lovely pool

Our lovely pool

Chris and I were a bit cautious with her at first. She slowly started jumping in, climbing out by the stairs, running around to the side & jumping in again all on her own. She and Chris would swim around the pool and she would start all over again. She was having a BLAST!

Elodie and Daddy, swimming around

Elodie and Daddy, swimming around

Our pool also has this mushroom thing that sprays out water, meant for little kiddos. I thought Elodie would love this more than anything else, but she wasn’t that into it.

Pool

Since I’ll probably the one who takes her to the pool most often when Chris is in school, I’m glad the vest worked well & that she is pretty comfortable swimming around in the “big” pool.  I certainly can’t run around after her too much at 6-7 months pregnant, like I will be this summer. Staying cool in the pool while she can do her own thing will be fun for both of us!

Needless to say, this day wore Elodie out so we made some yummy strawberry jelly & pie from our goodies at the strawberry farm while she napped! It was a fun summer day! I look forward to many more this summer.

Hope you’re enjoying this warm weather.

Spring has Sprung… sort of.

Anyone who knows me knows I’m NOT made for the cold weather. As soon as there is a hint of warm weather, my mood instantly perks up. I complain nearly every morning when I check my weather app & it says 30’s or 40’s. I’m beyond ready for spring/summer.

March is a crazy month, weather wise. One day it’s sunny & warm, one day it’s snow-flurrying, and then we’re under tornado warnings the very next day. So we try and savor those lovely warm sunny days, because you never know when we’ll get another one. We’ve spent a few days at the park lately and it’s been wonderful.

We also spent the other weekend in downtown Kennesaw at an annual event they host called, Touch-a-Truck. They have dozens of vehicles, school buses, fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, etc. out on display for the kids to run around, get in, and touch. It was a gorgeous day & Elodie loved getting in all the cool vehicles they had. The BEST part about the event was that everything was free! They had inflatable bouncy houses for the kids that were free & they were giving out free popcorn! We couldn’t of asked for a better way to spend the morning.

Lately

I am really in a rut with this whole blogging thing. I’m too busy during the week to write anything and then on the weekends, we are enjoying our time together/running errands/doing stuff around our house, so I quickly run out of time then too.

Also, I suck at taking pictures.

There are a few things I have managed to capture in the past couple of weeks, so here it goes.

Elodie’s knowledge/vocabulary just grows exponentially by the day. She’s saying 3-4 word sentences (her favorite of which is “no, my do it!”),  she repeats e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g we say, she’s learning to count, she knows some letters (pretty much just O & W),  she knows almost all of her colors, and she loves “reading” books to herself.  Her favorite things to do around the house are jump on her trampoline, have a tea party, push her baby dolls around in a stroller, color, draw and paint.  She also loves Skyping with Grandma & Grandpa on the iPad.

Blow-drying her hair

Blow-drying her hair after her bath like a diva

She’s gotten so sweet with us. Every afternoon when we come home or pick her up from her babysitter’s, she runs to us & screams “mommy! daddy! miss you!” She gives the best kisses, tells us “lub you” all the time, and after a long day she cuddles up to us and says “mommy/daddy need you.” What toddler says that?! How adorable!

This is a cute video  I took the other day of her “counting.” For some reason 7 & 9 are favorites.

The weather here has been horrible. As I’m sure most people are, I am SO SICK of the cold weather. It’s been ridiculously cold (for GA) and we’ve been hiding out inside as much as possible. We went to the Children’s Museum the other weekend and finally got a membership. I’m super excited that we can go there whenever we want now for freeeeeeee. It will definitely be worth it over the summer when the weather gets miserable for another reason.. the dreaded heat. Dreaded heat + me being really preggers will not be a good combination this summer. Indoor activities will be welcomed 🙂

Speaking of cold weather.. the past few days we’ve had snow flurries. Yep, it’s March… and we live in GA.. and it was snowing. What?!

January

Well, this month has kind of gotten away from me. I apologize for the absence.

Unfortunately, there’s not a lot to chat about. The weather here has been cold and gloomy. We’ve been hanging out inside a lot, watching football, working and etc.

Here’s a snapshot of our lives the past couple of weeks.

We moved Elodie up into a big girl class at gymnastics. She’s no longer in the parent-tot class, but a 30-mintue class all on her own! Luckily we have the same teacher, so she’s adjusting to it pretty well. This past week was her 2nd week and a few of her friends from the parent-tot class also moved up with her. They were so stinking cute.

The past few weekends in a row, we’ve had friends come over to watch the Falcons’ games. We love spending time with our great friends, especially when they entertain our child 🙂

Hope you all are well. Don’t forget about us over here, I’ll get better about updating more often!

New Year’s Resolutions:

As I check things off my Pre-pregnancy bucket list, these are some things I want to highlight as “resolutions” for the new year

1) Buy a House: We’re in a better place to actually accomplish this one this year. So, once we get our tax refund & put that money into our down payment savings fund, we’ll probably start looking.

2) Have a baby: Nope, still not pregnant yet, but hopefully this will be the year for Baby Watson #2.

3) Run 400 miles: I was reading some blog, (I can’t remember which one) where she had a goal of running 400 miles in a year. If you calculate this, it’s about 7 miles per week. This doesn’t seem like a huge commitment per week, so I’m hoping it’s doable.

What are some resolutions you have?

Have a great new year!

Weekend in Savannah

After a week off work hanging around the house because of the cold & rainy weather, and another one  to look forward to, Chris and I needed a change of scenery. We decided (well, I decided and Chris graciously agreed) to go to Savannah for the weekend. I’m from Savannah and miss it almost every day of my life. It’s beautiful, especially around this time of year. I honestly don’t remember the last time we were down there, so we left Saturday afternoon and returned this morning.

We packed up the babe, the car and picked up my mom to head down to Savannah. I’m pretty sure we picked the coldest weekend Savannah has seen this winter, because around this time of year, everyone is usually still rockin’ short-sleeved shirts. Unfortunately, it was in the 40’s and windy for the better part of the weekend. We tried to not let that ruin our fun.

When we got there, we went out to eat and it was just to cold to enjoy anything outdoors. My mom suggested bowling, which was a great idea! Elodie had never been, so it was even more fun 🙂

The next day, we wanted to walk around downtown Savannah and meet up with our friends the Finnegan’s. The first thing that got Chris’s attention was a ship that was docked & available to tour. I didn’t hear much information on the ship other than its name, The Peacemaker. Chris loved this stuff, so it was fun to walk around.

Christmas 2012

We had a small Christmas this year. It was just us, my mom, and the Williams (my sister, bro-in-law and nephew, Josiah.) We loved spending time together and watching the kiddos interact. Elodie was filled with pure joy for days as she opened up and played with all of her new goodies. Experiencing Christmas through a child’s eyes is so much more magical and exciting than I ever remember experiencing myself. I can only imagine that it will get better and better as she grows up!

Christmas started a few days before when presents arrived from Grandma & Grandpa. We couldn’t help but let her open (most) of them early.

Then, the Williams’ came into town & we enjoyed their company for a few days leading up to Christmas. I know my mom was so happy to have both her daughters, sons-in-law and grandbabies under one roof for several days!
